Privacy Policy

This site is operated from Germany. This policy follows the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR/DSGVO).

The short version: this site sets no cookies, runs no JavaScript, embeds nothing from third parties, and stores nothing on your device. There is no consent banner because there is nothing to consent to. The only personal data that changes hands when you read this blog is what any web request technically requires: your IP address, received by the hosting provider.

This site is served by GitHub Pages. The contracting entity for users in the European Economic Area is GitHub B.V., Prins Bernhardplein 200, 1097 JB Amsterdam, Netherlands; part of the processing takes place in the United States through GitHub, Inc. GitHub’s own documentation describes what happens when you visit a Pages site: “the visitor’s IP address is logged and stored for security purposes, regardless of whether the visitor has signed into GitHub or not.” GitHub does not publish a specific retention period for these logs; retention follows the criteria in GitHub’s privacy statement.

I do not store any visitor data myself, and I have no access to the logs GitHub collects.

Legal basis and purpose

The legal basis for this processing is Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest). The legitimate interest is the secure and reliable delivery of this website. Transfers to the United States are based on the European Commission’s adequacy decision of 10 July 2023 for the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework (Art. 45 GDPR); GitHub, Inc. is an active certified participant. GitHub processes this data under the GitHub Data Protection Agreement, which forms part of GitHub’s terms of service.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 15 to 21 GDPR). You are not obliged to provide any personal data; transmitting an IP address is a technical necessity of visiting any website. No automated decision-making or profiling takes place. Since I hold no visitor data, requests concerning GitHub’s logs are best directed to GitHub directly; I will assist where I can.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.
